National Fraud Initiative (NFI) 2026

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC) will take part in the National Fraud Initiative (NFI) in autumn 2026. The NFI is a UK-wide counter-fraud exercise, led in Scotland by Audit Scotland, which helps public bodies prevent and detect fraud, errors and overpayments.

As part of the exercise, SLLC securely shares data it holds with Audit Scotland so it can be matched with records held by other public bodies. This includes information relating to council tax, housing benefit, social housing, business rates, payroll, trade creditors, taxi licences and social care personal budgets.

A data match does not mean fraud or wrongdoing has taken place. It simply highlights information that may need to be checked by authorised officers.
